The mission of the Alpine County Child Abuse Prevention Council is to encourage and support interactive community based programs to ensure that children and families are safe and healthy.

Our Members
The Alpine County Child Abuse Prevention Council shall consist of a minimum
of seven (7) members, up to a maximum of fifteen (15) members. As the
prevention of child abuse requires the involvement of the entire community, the
Child Abuse Prevention Council shall encourage representation from a wide
variety of agencies, organizations, and the residential community.
Up to nine (9) members shall be chosen from the following professions:

  • Alpine County Office of Education/Unified School District,
  • Alpine County  Health and Human Services Department,
  • Office of the Alpine County District Attorney,
  • Superior Court of Alpine County,
  • Alpine County Sheriff s Office,
  • Alpine County Probation Department,
  • Community-based social services agency(s),
  • Community-based children's services agency(s),
  • Community-based religious organization(s),
  • Alpine County Behavioral Health Department,
  • Civic Organizations based within Alpine County.

Up to five (5) members shall broadly represent the community-at-large. A
member representing the community-at-large who is also from one of the above
professions must be designated in their application for Council membership as
representing their identified community. Such community-at-large members
must be residents representing the following communities:

  • Bear Valley,
  • Markleeville,
  • Woodfords,
  • Hung-A-Lel-Ti,
  • Kirkwood,
  • Hope Valley,
  • or any other areas within the borders of Alpine County

Five (5) positions shall be ex officio members. These positions shall include:

  • Alpine County Office of Education/Unified School District
  • Alpine County Health and Human Services Department
  • A]pine County Sheriff s Office
  • Alpine County Probation Department
  • Alpine County Behavioral Health Services Department
  • One (1) member shall be recommended by the Hung-A-Lel-Ti Community
  • Council,

In addition, the Council shall also include a formally appointed, but
non-voting, liaison of Alpine County Board of Supervisors.
Every effort should be made to assure that the ethnic, racial, geographic, and
categorical composition of the Council is reflective of the population of the
county. Council members shall serve without compensation, except for the
reimbursement of pre-approved actual and necessary travel costs.
Each Council member may, from time to time as deemed necessary, appoint an
alternate who shall exercise the same rights as the member in the member's
absence. If unable to secure a member representing the specific area of the
community, a member may be selected from the community-at-large. Members
shall be appointed by the Board of Supervisors for two year terms, beginning at
the date of appointment. Upon expiration of a term, the member may continue
to serve until such a time the Alpine County Board of Supervisors renews the
term of the existing member or appoints a new member. They may be
reappointed for any number of terms as long as the broad community
representation is maintained and prospective new members are given priority
consideration.
