FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: HIGHWAY 4 IS CLOSED FROM LAKE ALPINE TO WOLF CREEK IN BOTH DIRECTIONS DUE TO FLASH FLOODING AND DEBRIS FLOWS. RESIDENTS AND VISITORS ARE ASKED TO AVOID THE MARKLEEVILLE AREA UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

RE: Alpine County Public Safety and Road Update

 

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: DUE TO FLASH FLOODING AND DEBRIS FLOWS HIGHWAY 89 WILL REMAIN CLOSED WITH NO ESTIMATED TIME OF REOPENING FROM TURTLE ROCK PARK TO MARKLEEVILLE. RESIDENT ACCESS IS THROUGH MONITOR PASS. VISITORS ARE ASKED TO AVOID THE MARKLEEVILLE AREA UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. ALPINE COUNTY UNIFIED COMMANDS REMINDS RESIDENTS TO STAY VIGILANT DUE TO THE POTENTIAL FOR ADDITIONAL FLASH FLOODING AND DEBRIS FLOWS.  

 

Due to large scale rain events in Eastern Alpine County, the Alpine County Unified Command was notified by the California Department of Transportation that Highway 89 will be closed to all traffic from Turtle Rock Park to Markleeville until further notice. Access to Markleeville will be through Monitor Pass for residents. At this time, we are asking all visitors to avoid the area. 

 

Alpine County Unified Command is prepositioning public safety assets in Markleeville in anticipation for additional rain events and potential flooding. 

 

Sand and sandbags are located at Fire Station 92 in Markleeville for resident access at 860 Hot Springs Rd, Markleeville, CA 96120.
