Notice of Election and Notice to Submit Arguments

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that an election will be held in Alpine County on November 5, 2024, and that the following measure will be submitted to the voters of Alpine County, California:

Measure G

“For the sole purpose of supporting Alpine County’s General Fund, shall an ordinance be adopted to increase the ‘hotel/motel’ tax rate upon visitors of vacation home rentals, hotels, motels, and similar facilities in Alpine County from 10% to 14% of rent charged to the visitor, providing approximately an additional $400,000 annually for the General Fund until repealed?”

NOTICE IS ALSO HEREBY GIVEN that any written arguments for or against the measure to be submitted to the voters must be filed with the office of the County Clerk/Elections Official, PO Box 158, 99 Water Street, Markleeville CA 96120 or by emailing elections@alpinecountyca.gov , no later than 5 p.m. on August 9, 2024. Arguments must be accompanied by a Signature Statement, available from the Elections Official, signed and dated by the author(s). Arguments shall not exceed 300 words.

NOTICE IS ALSO HEREBY GIVEN that if an argument in favor of and an argument against the measure is submitted, copies will be mailed to the respective authors in order that they may submit a rebuttal argument. Rebuttal arguments must be accompanied by a Signature Statement, signed and dated by the author(s). The deadline for filing a rebuttal argument will be 5 p.m. on August 19, 2024. Rebuttal arguments shall not exceed 250 words.

Per California Elections Code section 9190, the county elections official shall make a copy of the materials referred to in Sections 9119, 9120, 9160, 9162, and 9167 (the ordinance, arguments for and against proposed ordinance, impartial analysis, fiscal impact statement, written arguments for or against county measure and rebuttal arguments) available for public examination in the county elections official's office for a period of 10 calendar days immediately following the deadline for submission of those materials (August 23 to September 1). Any person may obtain a copy of the materials from the county elections official for use outside of the county elections official's office. The county elections official may charge a fee to any person obtaining a copy of the material. The fee may not exceed the actual cost incurred by the county elections official in providing the copy. During the 10-calendar-day public examination period provided by this section, any voter of the jurisdiction in which the election is being held, or the county elections official, himself or herself, may seek a writ of mandate or an injunction requiring any or all of the materials to be amended or deleted. The writ of mandate or injunction request shall be filed no later than the end of the 10-calendar-day public examination period.
